Adult Autism Assessments

I provide neurodiversity-affirming psychological assessments to help answer the question, "Am I autistic?". I specialize in identifying adults who were previously missed due to their high masking/camouflaging abilities and inaccurate stereotypes from the traditional paradigm.
Going through the autism identification process with someone who truly understands and celebrates non-stereotypical presentations of autism can provide clarity and peace of mind. Below are answers to some common questions about the assessment process. Have more questions? Please ask!
  • My testing process is collaborative. You are the expert on your own lived experience. The goal is for me to learn from you about how you relate to the world around you.

I offer an optional consultation to answer any questions you have about the assessment process. This can be done through your preferred means of communication. We can talk over the phone, meet over Zoom, or engage in written dialogue through the chat feature of my client portal.

After the consultation, I will send you intake paperwork and questionnaires to fill out. These need to be completed before our first meeting, which can be conducted in person or over Zoom. This meeting is 2.5 -3 hours long and consists of a conversation where I will learn more about how you relate to the world, focusing specifically on sensory processing, areas of interest, language and communication preferences, social relationships, and emotional processing.

The second meeting is one hour and can be conducted in person or over Zoom. During this meeting, we will have a conversation about the assessment findings and suggested recommendations. I offer a visual representation of the findings to aid in this discussion, which you will receive a copy of after the meeting.

  • This assessment may be the right fit for you if you are wondering, "Am I Autistic?" This assessment is direct, streamlined, and only focuses on Autism. This assessment is a good fit if you are mainly doing this for self-understanding and don't need a formalized written report. You will receive informal feedback through a document that includes your findings, the data from the assessment, and recommendations. You will also receive a letter stating the findings of your assessment.

This assessment may not be the right fit for you if you need diagnostic clarity around multiple diagnoses. For example, if you aren't sure about Autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, bipolar, OCD, borderline, etc. This type of question is best answered through a comprehensive psychological evaluation. If you think this might be the best fit for you, I can provide referrals.

This assessment may not be the right fit for you if you need a formal report at the end of the process. Formal reports take many hours to write and significantly increase the cost of an assessment. I’ve found that most adults who are seeking an assessment for self-understanding do not need a formalized report. If you think that you might seek out formal accommodations at work or school, please contact them to ask what type of testing/documentation they require. I am able to fill out HR paperwork if needed for an additional fee.

  • You will receive the slides that were reviewed during the second meeting. These slides will include the findings, the data that supports the findings, and recommendations. I will hyperlink various resources and supports that I think might be helpful for your individual needs.

You will also receive a brief letter that states and explains the findings of the assessment.

If you are seeking accommodations for work or school, please contact them ahead of time to determine what type of testing/documentation is necessary. I am able to fill out HR paperwork for an additional fee, but I do not provide a comprehensive psychological report. If you need a report for accommodations, please contact me for referrals.

  • The total fee for the assessment is $1,000. The fee is due one week before your assessment date and you can pay it directly through the client portal using a credit card, HSA card, or FSA card at any time once we schedule. You can pay in one or multiple installments.

Adult autism evaluations may not be covered by medical insurance. However, you can call your insurance company to ask if they would provide reimbursement for an out-of-network autism evaluation. You should ask about CPT Codes 90791, 96136, 96137, 96130, and 96131.

There is a company called Reimbursify which will file the claim for you for a small fee.

Limited sliding scale options are offered. Please contact Caroline to ask about availability.
